Muhammad Kariye: Increase Your Inner Imaan

A short lecture by Sheikh Muhammed of Masjid As-Saber in Portland Oregon.

Symptoms of Weak Imaan

  • Sinning – Sinning and commiting acts that are against the teachings of Islam is a sign of weak Imaan.
  • Lack of Prayer – The more you pray, the closer you get to Allah, and lack of prayer will pull you away from Him.
  • Lack of Ibaadah – Ibaadah – which includes salah – is important and the lack of it will let your iman sink.
  • Laziness in Ibaadah – Laziness is from the shaitan and it will eventually cause you to discard your ibaadah all together.

Causes of Weak Imaan

  • Staying away and avoiding the Iman-filled areas. (The Masaajid and circles of knowledge)
  • Not learning the Deen (Seeking knowledge is mandatory on every Muslim)
  • Not reading the Quran (Read the quran on a daily basis, even if for only 5 minutes)
  • Not practicing the Sunnah of the Prophet (peace be upon him)
  • Living in a sinful environment (This includes having bad companions)

Curing the Imaan

  • Contemplate the Quran (Read the Quran in the language that you know best and contemplate its meanings)
  • Knowing Allah (studying his names and characteristics – Asmaa’ Allah wa Sifatihi)
  • Striving to do good deeds (Follow every bad deed with a good one and it will erace the former)
  • Remembering Allah (Dhikr)
  • Remembering death (The Prophet called it – Haadim Al-Ladhaat – The destroyer of pleasures)
  • Placing your trust in Allah (Tawakkul)

MashaAllah, some good tips on increasing our Iman. I think I personally need to attach to the Qur’an on a more regular basis.
